It’s Never Too Late To Step Out- Be The Person God Intended You To Be.

When I was in high school most kids knew how to “step out”.

I’m not talking about jumping in front of traffic or stomping onto the front porch in the middle of the night.

  1. blow-dried their Farrah Faucet style feathered hair,
  2. put on blue eye shadow,
  3. and squeezed into their crush-velvet jeans.

  • slathered their hair with Brill Cream
  • slipped on their best wide collared shirts
  • and wore their favorite  bell bottom pants.

Everybody headed to the local A and W, bowling alley or Dairy queen.  There they socialized. Circulated. Made waves.

I was too far away. Up in the Ozark mountains in boarding school. It was sort of a hicksville version of Hogwarts.

Every student had to work off 1/2 their tuition. It didn’t matter how much money their parents had. Teenagers milked cows, fed pigs and collected eggs from the the long low chicken coups.

At night, the entire student body studied. From 7 to 9.

No exceptions.

After the 9 o’clock bell things changed. It was time to step out

  • to the Rec Room.
  • on the front porch of the girl’s dorm.
  • down by the playing fields.

Most times I just hung out in my room.

I was afraid of what people would think.

Decades later I’m wondering why I let other people decide who I should be. After all, most kids were fixated on their own reputation.

I wish I would have had the courage to ignore everyone else’s opinions and just be me.

Fact is, I can’t turn back time. I can’t change what might have been. But, I can still embrace the woman God meant for me to be.

It’s never too late to step out.
